Manuel Gonzales to teach at the University of Kentucky MFA Program

This year’s Innovative Short Fiction Contest judge, Manuel Gonzales, will teach at the newly established University of Kentucky MFA Program.  Other MFA Program faculty at the University of Kentucky include DaMaris Hill, Julia Johnson, Gurney Norman, Erik Reece, Frank X. Walker, Andrew Ewell, and Hannah Pittard.

Manuel Gonzales is the author of The Miniature Wife and Other Stories, and he recently received an American Academy of Arts and Letters award for his collection.

Manuel Gonzales’s short story collection, The Miniature Wife and Other Stories, was recently awarded the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.  Congratulations, Manuel!

Call for Submissions: 2014 Innovative Short Fiction Contest

The Conium Review‘s Innovative Short Fiction Contest is currently open for submissions.  The contest deadline is March 15th, 2014.  The contest judge is Manuel Gonzales, author of The Miniature Wife (Riverhead Books, 2013).

The winner receives $500, publication in our journal, five copies of the print issue, and a copy of the judge’s book.  The $15 entry fee includes a free digital download of the issue.  Up to 7,500 words of flash fiction or short stories.

Innovative writing should pack a punch.  Send us your weird, wild, and wonderful.  Take risks with your draft.

Manuel Gonzales to read at the 2014 AWP Conference

Manuel GonzalesCome see our upcoming contest judge, Manuel Gonzales, reading from The Miniature Wife and Other Stories at the AWP 2014 Conference.

Manuel will read on Saturday, March 1st at the Washington State Convention Center, Level 6 for the event “Celebrating 20 Years of Extraordinary Fiction at Riverhead Books.”  The readings go from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm.  In addition to Manuel’s reading, you’ll hear recent work from Jess Row (author of Nobody Ever Gets Lost), Danielle Evans (author of Before Your Suffocate Your Own Fool Self), and Nami Mun (author of Miles from Nowhere).
